Oahu: a primary destination for military personnel
With around 50,000 active military personnel, Oahu is most often the destination for members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines relocating to Hawaii.
The island is home to both Honolulu and Pearl Harbor, as well as Wheeler Army Airfield, which serves as headquarters for U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii, and Schofield Barracks, the home of the 25th Infantry Division. For most military families that have moved to Hawaii, Oahu is the place they call home.
Royal Hawaiian Movers has a team dedicated to Oahu moves, and can expertly handle your relocation, ensuring your transition from the mainland or elsewhere is a seamless experience.

The weather, the culture, the costs: what military members can expect in a move to Hawaii
The bright side is that your PCS is to an island paradise, but even a move to paradise has preparatory steps you should take, and facts you should know beforehand.
The weather: Yes, it’s warm. Yes, it’s wet. But did you know that it also snows in the mountaintops? And each island is different, so before you move to Oahu, Kauai, Maui, the Big Island, or wherever your PCS may be, research the local weather and ensure you and your family are prepared. Rule of thumb for Hawaiian weather: if you don’t like it, wait a minute.
The culture: While you may spend most of your time surrounded by fellow military personnel, Hawaii has much to offer our men and women in uniform, as well as their children: island living means surfing, fresh seafood, and so much more. Geographical wonders abound, such as Volcano Park on the Big Island, the sands of Waikiki Beach on Oahu, and the breathtaking canyons on Kauai.
The costs: While COLA and BAH will help balance costs, there’s no sugar coating the fact that it’s a little more expensive to live in Hawaii. The key is to live more like the locals do. For example, instead of doing the bulk of your shopping at supermarkets, choose farm stands and local markets in your area. You’ll find that food is not only less expensive, but more fresh — a classic win-win scenario.
You simply won’t find a better team for moving military personnel to Hawaii. Not only will our global moving experience make your move seamless, but our understanding of local customs will empower you and your family with all you need to make the most of your time in Hawaii.
